Which Bitcoin Exchange to use?

Hi all,
New here, i've been looking into buying Bitcoins and having been researching quite a bit. So far from what I understand, you must go through a Bitcoin exchange and Coinbase seems like the largest one yet I keep hearing horror stories from reviews of Coinbase. I'm located in Arizona and looked at Gemini but they don't work there apparently.
What exchanges do you all use? Are the exchanges mostly just online? I have a mobile wallet currently to store Bitcoins so are transactions just transferred through there?
Thanks!

Which exchange to use to purchase Bitcoin with fiat money in the UK?

Hello, wondering with exchange people would recommend for purchasing BTC in the UK. I already have a wallet and the main purpose of this will be to make purchases online. I will only be converting a small amount ( Around £100) and therefore I am looking for a exchange that is more time efficient than cost saving.

Bitcoin to USD traders which exchange do you use and why?

I trade 1-2 bitcoins on coinbase often to make up some margin for daily expenses but I am fed up paying upwards of $70 per transaction. I am also scared of theft and hacking so want to choose a comparatively safer exchange. I use breadwallet for long term storage. Can you please suggest which ones you use and why? Thank you in advance.

When buying from an exchange, can I choose which wallet the bitcoin is sent to or do I have to use the exchange wallet?

Is there a way to deposit directly to the wallet I want when I buy from an exchange? It looks like coinbase only lets you deposit to their wallet when you buy bitcoin, and then you have to transfer it to a wallet like airbitz or electrum. Therefore, two fees are being paid.
Is there a way to make airbitz or electrum the default wallet for bitcoin to be sent to when you purchase it? Can this be done on coinbase/gdax/other exchanges?

so they would be strictly limited to using 2nd layer solutions and never touching main chain, right? which is technically putting trust in exchanges/federation (a la Liquid)? not saying that's necessarily bad entirely as it's more decentralized than the Dollar, however not as decentralized as obviously 1st layer.
i assume that as we scale to higher layers, decentralization trade-offs are required, would you agree? almost like having Ripple on a 2nd layer of bitcoin?
